It’s that time of year -holiday party invites are coming in. I get super anxious trying to figure out what I’m going to wear to these events. I always have a fear that I’m either going to go overboard and be too fancy, or I’m going to dress too casually and look lazy.

I can never just pick an outfit. I have to have options depending on how I feel the day of the party. The outfits also need to fit all of my criteria. I’m picky, but my requirements are fairly reasonable.

  • Must be comfortable enough to chase children around if they are coming with to the party. Some parties are family oriented, and you can’t run after toddlers in a tight body con dress and stilettos- at least I can’t. You also don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort.
  • Must boost confidence. If I don’t feel good about myself in what I’m wearing, I will be very awkward and unhappy. Regardless of who says I look good, if I don’t feel good, it’s not going to work. If I try an outfit on and I’m instantly smiling and feel beautiful, it’s a winner. The key is not to second guess that first feeling.
  • I want to be polished with a casual flare. I like dressing up, but if I can’t wear the same outfit for a day out with a few tweaks like accessories and shoes, it’s too fancy. I like dresses, but I don’t want to look like I’m going to prom or an upscale wedding. I want to be able to take one of my favorite dresses, add some nice jewelry, and jazz it up with some cute booties or something.

I know it sounds like a bit much, but I recently bought a few items that will be making their rounds to the holiday festivities this year. It took me forever to decide on what I wanted to add to my closet, but I’m so happy I made these choices. I can build great holiday outfit options with these simple pieces.

My New Favorite Cardigan

Twotwowin Womens Button Down Cardigan- Long Sleeve Open Front Casual Knit Snap Sweater

I decided on this cardigan because it is really versatile. It will pair amazingly with a summer dress and some tall boots. It will also look great with a casual T-shirt, jeans, and booties, so it can work for different dress codes.

It’s very comfortable. I was worried about how the sleeves would fit, but it ran true to size and fits perfectly.

The gold snap buttons make it pop too. I have a bunch of cardigans, but I like how the buttons make this one look. It also hits me in the best places.

I put a few outfits together from my closet as ideas on what to pair with the cardigan.

Simple Jewelry is Best.

Lazycat Stainless Steel 18K Plated Bar Necklace with Engravable Bar Pendant (Gold)

I love rose gold. I’ve loved it since I was in college. It just makes me feel classy and pretty. Simple bar necklaces have been a staple with my outfits for as long as I can remember. They are subtle but can make an outfit more polished.

This one is very inexpensive, doesn’t turn my skin green, and can be engraved. What more could you ask for? I pretty much wear this every weekend now. It’s my go to necklace for every type of event. It can be worn closer to the neck like a chocker or with the full slack where it hangs just above my cleavage. It really is a nice necklace that doesn’t break the bank.

The Dress that Surprised Me

MOLERANI Women’s Cold Shoulder Tunic Top Swing T-Shirt Loose Dress with Pockets

When I pick a dress, it has to hit all the right points of my body. I won’t consider a dress unless it fits me exactly the way I like. I want to see my natural shape, but I also don’t want to draw too much attention to my midsection. I workout 6 days a week, but I also enjoy food and had babies. I need a dress that shows that without making me cry.

As soon as I see the words “tunic” or “swing” dress, I instantly scroll past. I’m too afraid of looking bigger than I am. My husband actually saw me looking at this dress on my phone, and he told me to buy it right away.

Well, I listened, and I have to say, this is the biggest surprise I’ve ever encountered with buying a dress. I love it so much. The fabric is so soft, and it has pockets. Dresses with pockets make me incredibly happy. It makes me feel so pretty, and it’s so comfortable. The shoulders give it some flare, and it flows with my body nicely. I thought I’d look like I was wearing a sack since I’m not the same size as the model in the picture. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

This dress will most likely see more than one holiday party this year. I’m also buying it for some of the ladies I love. It’s really a great deal, and there are a lot of color options. I chose black, since you can’t go wrong with a LBD.

This dress can be paired with so many different styles of shoes. I put my tall riding boots and my cowboy boots with it, and both were super cute.

Take Away

I haven’t bought a lot of clothes online, because I’m always worried about fit and the hassle of returns. I have to say Amazon did me proud this time! I read a fair amount of reviews and read how each item would fit. It was fairly simple.

I think these items can be mixed well with any closet to make some pretty wonderful holiday party outfits. I can go on the dressier side for my husband’s work party, and I can go more casual for a get together with my girls. I like the versatility.

Check out these items, and share some of your favorite holiday outfit ideas! Stay on the lookout for a post about holiday party makeup ideas.

  1. This is so funny because it’s totally me too! Last year for my work holiday party I seriously took pictures of myself in 5 different outfits and kept texting them to my co worker to get her opinion because obviously my husband wanted no part in it! Finally ended up wearing a dress I’d already had after returning 3 to Nordstrom. 🤦‍♀️

    1. I find myself in that same situation almost every time. Deciding what to wear is never easy for me, but since I’ve done a few posts like this, I’ve been able to stop second guessing my choices and just go with my gut. 😊❤️

    1. Thanks so much! I do have boots in almost every color. Just need a wine colored velvet pair. I don’t have a lot of actual clothes, but I can always work with what I got. Then, there’s Amazon to remind me of all the things I want. 😊😘

    1. Thanks! I miss the food consuming stage of life. I’m in the food sharing with tiny monsters stage. I do consider food as criteria sometimes, which is why I don’t usually put together outfits with white elements. I decided tis the season to brighten up my black pieces.
