For The Love of Lipstick

So, I’m lipstick obsessed. If I were only able to wear one piece of makeup for the rest of ever, it’d be some type of lip product. I can’t help it, they just make me smile.

The amount of lip products I have is a bit much, but I’m working on decluttering my collection. While I was going through my bag of lipsticks, stains, and glosses, I started to think about what colors I want to wear this spring. I don’t always follow what trends are in with finishes and colors, because I have favorites I can’t give up.

I have a wide variety of brands in my makeup bag and purse, but my favorites aren’t high end. I love Revlon, Almay, NYX, and Rimmel. I like a lot of others, but my go-to spring and summer shades usually are from those brands.

I’m not trying to sell you anything, but I will attempt to link to some of these products. Today, I just want to share my favorite lip products new and old.

Fav New Find

So, I was looking at the Almay products at our local Target, when I saw a display that caught my eye. It was vibrant and cheerful. It was for Almay Lip Vibes. I decided on a color called be strong, and it’s my absolute new favorite lip find. The color is perfect for spring.

I love the packaging, and I love the way it feels. It’s made with vitamin E, C, shea butter. It’s soft, creamy, and light. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately, and I only have to reapply a swipe here and there depending on if I’m eating. I also liked that you can make it darker with a few layers, and it doesn’t feel heavy. I had to tell someone about this, so I’m glad I’m doing a lip post! I will definitely be getting other colors too!

Be Classic in Red

I love red lipsticks. I tend to prefer bullet lipsticks over liquid, but I have a fair amount of each. The red that I wear the most, my husband picked out, and I haven’t found one I love as much. Some have come close, but kiss of life 111 by Rimmel is my favorite. It’s from the Rimmel London Lasting Matte Finish Collection by Kate Moss. It lasts forever and doesn’t dry my lips out, which can happen with some matte formulas.

Pink is Bold Too

When I think about bold lip colors, I instantly think reds, but pinks are bold too. Plus, they are great for spring. Pink, as a lip color, makes me feel feminine and powerful, which is a wonderful combination.

My favorite pink is actually a lip balm stain by Revlon in smitten 030. I’ve hunted online, and haven’t been able to find it, so I’m guessing it’s an older color. To be fair, I bought it a year or two ago. I finally opened it this past summer. I am in the process of checking all my expiration dates, but this one still felt like it was good. It layers well and is super lightweight. It’s so easy to put on while out and about too. I will definitely have to go looking for some newer pink shades when this one is past it’s prime.

Nude for Days

I love nudes, especially brownish nudes. I have 3 or 4 almost identical nude bullet lipsticks and a few very similar liquids too. My husband thinks nudes are pointless, but in his defense he thinks bold is always better. I love nudes though, so they take up a good chunk of my lip collection.

My go-to nude is from NYX in whipped caviar. It’s a matte bullet lipstick, and it’s beautiful. It goes on a little heavier than some of my other mattes, but it feels soft. If I don’t wear a balm underneath, it can be drying from time to time, but it’s a color I’ve purchased multiple times. It is a great color for those no-makeup, makeup days. It makes me feel natural but still very pretty.

For the Love of Lipstick

When it comes to lip colors, I tend to stick with shades that I already know I like to wear, but I want to branch out this spring and summer. I was to go brighter and bolder. I want to find some new favorites. Almay and Revlon are the brands I like best, but I’m keeping an open mind.

Once my lipstick collection is gone through and cleaned out a bit, I’m sure I’ll bulk it back up.

Let me know what colors you love the most for spring and summer! Have a beautiful week.

  1. That Almay lipstick sounds a lot like the Sephora Lip Stories Lipsticks (I think that’s what they are called). They have similar packaging and claims. You may want to check out those Sephora lippies, too! I believe they are only $8.
