This week’s Follow Friday Featured Blogger is a lovely lady that I definitely admire. I’ve stalked her blog a fair amount recently, and it’s because she’s a magnificent writer.
Steph runs Steph’s Social Pie, and it’s a wonderful site where she writes about mental health, wellness, blogging, and life in general. If you haven’t been to her blog yet, you should go check it out!
Must Read Posts:
Creating a Better Blog Brand – I love this post, not only because she gives solid advice, but she talks about where her brand and name came from. I love when bloggers are relatable rather than informative robots. She nails it!
Anxiety is the Ultimate Mean Girl – I love that she says, “I’m not a bitch. Anxiety is.” I don’t think I’ve ever read a post where I “yes’d” out loud so many times. If you have anxiety, read this, and if you don’t, read it anyway!
Best Plants for Your Home – I love this, because I avoid plants like the plague. This post makes me want to turn my house into a plant friendly atmosphere. I usually kill anything green, but this compelled me to get some happy plant life going in my home. Thanks girl!
Steph writes stories and posts that are relatable and honest. I will say that I could probably link all of them, because every post is pretty fabulous. Go read them!
1. Since you’ve written for a lot of platforms and outlets like magazines and newspapers, how has that shaped your blog?
My experience as a journalist and magazine writer is what led me to blog. I worked in print media for nearly 10 years, writing for major newspapers and magazines but print died. I love to write and am always in my own world, thinking of new story ideas or ways to spin an article I’ve read etc. It comes natural to me. As a journalist, it’s in me to discover the who, what, where, why and how. I have a real desire to tell stories that help people, so I created Steph’s Social Pie as my latest outlet. I’m currently in college studying Social Media Marketing. Using my background as a writer and my education in social media marketing, I felt like blogging was really a no-brainer;)
2. I’m sure with your lofty writing past, you’ve covered a lot of topics. What’s your favorite topic to write about on your blog?
My favorite topic is definitely mental health. I’m very passionate about helping people overcome the stigma of mental illness because I’ve suffered from anxiety and depression for most of my life. When I tell people this, I often hear that they don’t even believe me. I want people to understand that you can look a certain way and act fine yet be suffering inside! It really is an invisible illness that affects so many people. I’ve lost many friends and family members to mental illness. Some of them I had no idea they were even suffering. Millions of people die every year because of mental illness, and if I could help stop just one of those- I’ll feel like I’ve really done something with my life!
3. If you could achieve one overall goal with your blog, what would you want to achieve?
I’ve set some pretty big goals, but go big or go home no?! My very first seasonal editorial is set to be published next month, which is an extension of my blog, so that’s very exciting news! My plan moving forward is to publish a monthly editorial, featuring an up and coming blogger. I think it ties in so nicely with my whole ‘Slice Of The Social Pie’ branding. I’m currently in school full-time working towards a degree in Social Media Marketing. After graduation I plan to offer the most useful things I’ve learned on my journey, in an online course for up and coming bloggers. College is so expensive and takes a lot of time! I want to provide the most effective ways to use social media marketing for blogging at a fraction of what you’d pay in college. I can’t even begin to explain how much I’ve learned so far and I don’t know where I would be without education. Knowledge is power.
There you have it! She’s a wonderful blogger. I don’t usually subscribe to blogs via email. I follow a lot of them, but I’m pretty stingy with my email. I actually follow her with email subscription and look forward to her posts, so if you haven’t signed up for her subscription yet, you need to. You won’t be disappointed.
Where to Find Her
Have a wonderful weekend!
